Measured Responses

Chairman Hiro stood on the pinnacle of the Jinteki headquarters and looked out over New Angeles. The breeze was refreshing, and the city was bright and gaudy, filling the night sky with light and movement.

Akitaro cleared his throat, still holding the PAD toward his superior.

Hiro did not change his posture, but he felt Akitaro whither and draw back.

More arcologies in the southern sector could be built, Hiro thought to himself, eying the skyline and seeing the potential for gentrification and additional labour solutions.

Turning slightly, Hiro held his hand to the side, and Akitaro hurried to place the PAD in it. Hiro studied the data quickly, eyes flicking as his finger scrolled.

“This seems in order. Activate these defenses immediately.”

Akitaro retrieved the PAD, and Hiro turned back to gaze out at the city.

The young sysop did not retreat, so Hiro turned his full attention to the man. “There is something else?”

Akitaro paled, but nodded. “These countermeasures were developed in response to the increased net criminal aggression after the Flashpoint incident, Shachō-san. Will the new defensive measures not exceed the boundaries placed upon us by the quorum?”

“Activate these defenses immediately.”

The young man dropped his eyes to the ground. “Yes, Shachō-san.”

Kobayashi Maru

The goal is to hide your Future Perfects. Well, really the goal is to mill the runner into oblivion and remove their Heap from the game, but you get the idea.

Kakugo is such a gift to Jinteki. I thought about putting Synth DNA Modification in here as well, but I opted for the ongoing threat of Bio-Ethics Association instead.

And boy-oh-boy is this disgusting in Potential Unleashed. I’ve specifically chosen ICE that do small packets of net damage (as opposed to Neural Katana—and yes, DNA Tracker is the exception). Combined with the text ability of Kakugo, House of Knives, and Shocks, Snares, and Fetals, we should be shredding through that Runner deck in no time.

Fairly obviously, you just want to no-advance stuff. Drop your Chronos Projects, your House of Knives, and your Philotics as trickily as you can interspersed with your other assets. If a Shock or a Snare doesn’t bait out a run, install over it and put it back into your deck with Preemptive Action.

They destroying your PADs and Bio-Ethicses? Good thing we continue to call upon our Friends in High Places.

Get creative as well. A Future Perfect is pretty safe in Archives (until you find your Jackson or Preemptive) if there’s some shocks in there.

Go, have fun. Reduce runner options and give them no-win scenarios. This is the heart of Jinteki.
