Berserker

When you have no other options

Quetzal hung from the ledge of the arcology complex staring up into the flat eyes of the Weyland response team hitman. The gun in his hand had a clear kill shot, and Quetzal had nowhere to go but down—with a two-hundred story drop.

“Any last words, green?” The killer’s voice lacked intonation or emotion. It seemed strictly like a ritual that had been repeated so often that it was reflex rather than compassion.

Quetzal flexed fingers that had been chafed by hardscrabble clawing at the metal of the arcology roof. Then, after a deep breath, the runner let go.

Tumbling through the air—no gear, no harness, no hopper—Quetzal smiled about one thing.

“Not dead yet.”

Binder Fodder

I had a lot of false starts with Berserker. In every situation I thought “Why am I not using Paperclip? Or Corroder?”

Sure, it’s a strength three barrier at base. But then it’s two to break a Wall of Static, which is the same as Corroder and Paperclip. But it’s twice as expensive as Corroder to install, and it doesn’t play from heap like Paperclip.

I thought, you know, this might be a good emergency breaker.

So I figured an e3 deck with Quetzal. This also helps make Berserker a bit cheaper against three and five-sub barriers.

There were versions that ran parasite, but then why run Berserker? Versions with Always Be Running (but then why run Berserker?), and one version that used Mammon—but then why run Berserker?

In the end, I went Berserker and MKUltra with Paintbrush. Bad face-check code gates will be a problem, but most of those are Bioroids. We’re just going to have to eat face checks and then Paintbrush/Knifed them. The whole goal? Keyhole your heart out. As early and as often as possible.

I’m not sure why this card was printed. Anybody have some insight into that?
